Dear Mr Beals

I have completed an hour's search for JEROMES (and variants) in Yattendon and neighbouring parishes and have found the following:

<>  Richard s/o           Isaac and Mary Jerom                baptised Yattendon           7 Jul  1765
Sarah d/o             John and Ann Awbrey                baptised Stanford Dingley 17 Apr 1772

Richard Jerome m. Sarah Awbery

Yattendon

15 Jan 1788

of Yattendon

of Stanford Dingley

John s/o

Richard and Sarah Jorham

baptised Yattendon

20 Apr 1788

Thomas s/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

13 Jan 1799

Amelia d/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

1 Jun 1802

Richard s/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

21 Oct 1804

Henry s/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

31 May 1807

Charles s/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

4 May 1810

Isaac s/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

23 May 1813

Elizabeth d/o

Richard and Sarah Jerome

baptised Yattendon

24 May 1817

I cannot account for the gap between the births of John in 1788 and Thomas in 1799.  I would have expected to see the death of Sarah Awbery and a remarriage to another Sarah, or baptisms in a neighbouring parish, but could find neither.

Richard Jerome m Hester Hazel, Ashampstead, 25 Oct 1830

Harriet d/o Richard and Hester Jerome

baptised Yattendon

26 May 1833

Sarah d/o Richard and Hester Jerome

baptised Yattendon

27 Sep 1835

Caroline d/o Richard and Hester Jerome

baptised Yattendon

30 Dec 1838

Hester d/o Richard and Hester Jerome

Mary Ann d/o Richard Hester Jerome

baptised  Ashampstead

baptised Ashampstead

8 May 1842

18 May 1845

Richard is described as a bachelor at the time of his marriage to Hester, so it must be a different Richard who married Mary Gibbs.  As you rightly point out, there are a lot of Jeromes in the area at that time!

I attach an order form for printouts of these records.

Yours sincerely
