Dear Mr Beals

I have at last completed the search for the parents of William Wallis, baptised in 1768.  I found the following:

Thomas Wallis m. Mary Hamblin

8 Oct 1767

Bradfield

William s/o Thomas and Mary Wallis

bapt 30 Jan 1768

Bradfield

James s/o Thomas and Mary Wallis

bapt 30 Jan 1768

Bradfield

Elizabeth d/o Thomas and Mary Wallis

bapt 26 Sep 1773

Bradfield

buried 2 Jun 1776

Ann d/o Thomas and Mary Wallis

bapt 31 Oct 1776

Bradfield

I then searched for a baptism for Thomas Wallis in Bradfield, but there was no trace of one.  I also looked at the indexes for the neighbouring parishes of Bucklebury, Yattendon, Basildon, Sulhamstead, Ufton Nervet and Beenham, but did not find anything there.  The IGI lists a few Thomas Wallises born in the 1730s and 1740s in Berkshire, but there is no obvious connection.

I attach an order form for the records I found.  Would you like me to try to track the Jerome family next?

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Beals

Thank you for your e-mail requesting clarification on the Thomas Wallis-Willliam Wallis connection.

To answer your first question, there was no other William Wallis baptised c1769 in Yattendon.

I have checked the parishes around Yattendon: Hamstead Norreys, Frilsham, Bucklebury, Stanford Dingley and Ashampstead, but there is no other William Wallis baptised c.1769.

Thomas Wallis was buried in Bradfield in 1783.

It really comes down to the balance of probability and this could be reflected in your family tree by an indication that this is not a proven connection but a working hypothesis.

It did take quite a long time to recheck all the other parishes, so I have charged £17.00 to your credit card account, together with £17.00 for the Jerome search.

I will now turn my attention to the Jeromes!

Yours sincerely
